Auditions for soloists, ensemble, and children's chorus for Opera Siam's upcoming programs.Opera Siam is Thailand's flagship opera, having been in existence for 25 years and having produced 68 staged opera productions. For the last five years, since the Covid crisis, Opera Siam has been slightly dormant, returning first to one production and year and now gradually moving back to its former regular schedule of classic operas (often with a novel interpretation to integrate with local culture) new operas, and operatic rarities. This unique mix of repertoire and the addition of a Southeast Asian sensibility is what has made Opera Siam, in the words of London's OPERA magazine, "the operatic hub of Southeast Asia."
Opera Siam is a favorite place for many world-renowned singers who regularly perform at world's major houses like the Met and Covent Garden. But it's also been where almost every successful Thai opera singer rose to national and international prominence. Opera Siam is a good credit to have on your resume.
This year we are reviving the Young Soloist Program for beginning professionals. Members of YSP receive first crack at comprimario roles, soloist parts and are ensemble leaders.
For chorus or children's chorus: you'll receive a voice test and be asked to sing a simple song of our own choosing. For soloists, you should prepare an aria that best shows off your voice, and keep a second piece in reserve. Young Soloists Program singers won't be chosen immediately but might be asked for a callback session.
The operas that are either in the schedule already or are planned for the next three years include: MAE NAAK, COSI FAN TUTTE, SALOME, PRINCE VESSANTARA, ORFEO (Vienna Version), GIANNI SCHICCHI, RIGOLETTO, and more.
