Opening Reception: Missouri Wildflowers

We welcome the public to join us for the opening reception of Missouri Wildflowers, a painting exhibit by local artist Ken Southwick.
Ken is an artist and illustrator living in Carthage, Missouri. His work has been shown in galleries, fairs, and universities throughout the Midwest. He enjoys traveling and has painted in countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. In 1994, he was invited to exhibit and lecture at the Central Institute of Fine Arts in East Beijing, China.
Ken paints historical sites, churches, temples, and religious statuaries. He also paints the Ozarks and Missouri wildflowers, working in gouache and oil.
He's worked in the commercial field as an artist for Marvel Comics, Hallmark Cards, Spink & Edgar, and Leggett & Platt. Ken was a pioneer in the development of computer illustration and volunteered in the educational system giving computer seminars, painting demonstrations, and curriculum advisement to colleges and universities.
He painted under the pseudonym Abraxas from 1974 – 1994. To view his portfolio, visit his website at www.kensouthwick.net.
Missouri Wildflowers is presented by Post Art Library at Joplin Public Library April 10th through May 29th. The opening reception is free and all-ages.
