About this Event
Join us for an evening of design, conversation, and ceramic reverance as we unveil three unforgettable exhibitions that explore the emotional, cultural, and material connections between people and the spaces and objects they create.
"less discernible edges" (Main Gallery) is an exhibition of works by renowned designer Anna Varendorff (ACV Studio). Currently based in Melbourne, originally from Queensland. Varendorff exhibited in the 2006 iteration of Unleashed at artisan. Working by hand, and with other specialist Australian fabricators, Varendorff creates sophisticated designs that push the boundaries of materials and form. Her practice celebrates the importance of skilled handmaking, women makers, and embracing the distinctive variations that emerge from individual craftsmanship.
"OMAMORI" (Small Objects Gallery) by Mari Hirata explores the Japanese Omamori, amulets and talismans believed to hold supernatural power, reflecting the concept of fetishism—assigning non-material value to objects. OMAMORI delves into themes of life, death, and personal belief. Having grown up in Japan until the age of ten, Hirata was surrounded by Omamori, even though her family’s religious exposure was varied. This exposure left a lasting impression on her, particularly on how we attribute power and belief to objects. A recent experience of making an Omamori for her father while he was in hospital provided comfort, even to his secular perspective. This personal significance has driven Hirata to explore and expand this concept further in her art.
"The Emotional Blueprint" (Machinery Street Gallery) by QCAD students of QCA Interior and Spatial Design invites visitors to explore the unseen layers of interior design: the emotional, psychological, and deeply personal elements that shape how we experience space. Far beyond aesthetics and function, this exhibition delves into the idea of designers as emotional architects, translators of inner worlds into physical form. Through a series of conceptual models and reflective design narratives, The Emotional Blueprint examines how the inner landscapes of both designer and client converge to create spaces that resonate on a human level. These are not just rooms to walk through; they are spaces that listen, respond, and hold emotional memory.
Come and experience how emotion, craftmenship and epersonal meaning can shape the world around us- through handcrafted design, symbolic objects , and the invisible layers of interior space. We would be delighted to see you there!
