About this Event

'Objects of Dystopia' invites visitors to venture beyond the conventional and explore the surreal within the confines of 30x30cm artworks.

This exhibition is concerned with the human experience/condition from the anthropological, sociological and psychological perspective, rethinking representations of identity in a dystopian world.

Through a radical, interdisciplinary, multi-modal approach this exhibition aims to re-conceptualise, re-materialise how we view and experience dystopia. Bringing together both field-based and studio-based practices, this exhibition aims to simulate new and productive dialogues about how identity and human behaviours are conditioned by social and cultural influence.

A point of departure was the text ‘A History of the World in 100 Object’ by Neil McGregor, the exhibition explores the methodologies, theories and histories of art and anthropology. This exhibition challenges notions of modernity through the juxtaposition of ethnographic and contemporary aesthetics.

Featuring emerging artists: Tu Pham, Florence Law-Henocq, Nikita Snegirjovs, Sabīne Šnē, Laurie Martin, Karl Murphy, Dora Perini, Hollis Hui, Adrian L Harvey, Dream Woks, Soyhun Han, David Koh.
