Sparling's fifth solo show at 22 North features recent large acrylic paintings on paper and continues his exploration of the human figure in motion. The works move freely between abstract networks or kinetic tracings to more figurative pictures of the dancing body. As a dancer/choreographer and video artist, Sparling brings to his interdisciplinary painting practice an eye for both the visceral and visual. His use of video projections of his body in motion to guide his brush results in a looping process of improvisational "strokes" and a charged impression of a living presence.
