About this Event
e.g.etal is thrilled to invite you to the opening of ASIMINA, a special exhibition of silver jewellery by Vikki Kassioras, offering a retrospective exploration of her creative practice which now spans over two decades.
Please join us at e.g.etal gallery on Thursday 10 October from 5-7pm to be one of the first people to view in person, and enjoy delicious cuisine provided by Vikki.
This exhibition reinterprets and reimagines select pieces from Vikki’s past collections, providing a foundation for this body of work. Through the lens of hindsight, combined with an evolved creative process, Vikki introduces a fresh perspective whilst maintaining the integrity of her original designs.
The natural properties of silver strongly inform her making, and often the form. Vikki employs ancient goldsmithing techniques such as fusing, which results in a tactile, textured quality reminiscent of unearthed artefacts. This method allows the silver to bond when heated to a high temperature, resulting in works that contain no solder. In this way, the purity of the material is retained.
A female name derived from the Greek word “asimi” – translated to ‘silver’ in English – the title is a subtle nod to her intriguing and strong-willed great-grandmother, her fearless spirit a touchpoint as Vikki breathes new life into her earlier creations.
ASIMINA is a collection embracing the beauty in the unexpected and the raw, weaving threads of time to capture a narrative of timeless vision and craftsmanship.
This collection will exhibit 10 to 30 October, 2024 in e.g.etal gallery, 150 Little Collins Street Melbourne 3000.
