Join us for the opening celebrations of 'Derek Jarman: Delphinium Days' and 'James Barth: The Clumped Spirit', two extraordinary exhibitions exploring themes of identity, activism, and transformation.'Derek Jarman: Delphinium Days' is the first Australian exhibition of influential artist and activist Derek Jarman (1942–94) brings together Jarman's rarely seen paintings and films alongside photography and archival materials about the artist. Fighting restrictive political and artistic orthodoxies, Jarman moved between painting, film, installation, writing, set design, performance, and gardening. He is best known today as a pioneer of experimental film and as an early campaigner for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly for people living with HIV and AIDS.
Derek Jarman: Delphinium Days has been co-developed by Gus Fisher Gallery and City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi and is co-curated by Lisa Beauchamp, Aaron Lister and Michael Lett.
