About this Event

Join us Saturday April 29th at 2pm for a talk about Opening Day, the celebration of the start of boating season in Seattle! The talk will be led by Christine Lange, who will have some special paintings up for our April show that represent Opening Day. Christine will be joined by Christian Lockwood and Philip Reid, all three of them are the Parade Controllers for the Seattle Yacht Club.

Here is what Christine has to say about it:

"Opening Day is always on the first Saturday in May, and it marks the first day of boating season on Pacific Northwest waters. People who boat know that boating season never really closes on our beautiful lakes and Salish Sea, we just re-open it again each spring. Opening Day is marked by crew races on Lake Washington, and a festive boat parade through the Montlake Cut past a log boom of spectators. It is a love letter to life on the water in the Pacific Northwest, and this art collection celebrates the coming together of the boating community before we begin another glorious summer on sparkling waters. The images are meant to capture the energy in the spring air, the nautical themes and flags, and the joy and potential for adventure of the glorious summer season ahead."

We hope to see you at this free event! Please RSVP so we know how many to expect.
