Toby Lee is a 19 year old blues guitar phenomenon. He won UK Blues Awards Young Blues Artist of the Year in 2018 and 2023. His 2021 album ‘Aquarius’ topped the Official Jazz and Blues Album charts. Toby has shared the stage with Walter Trout, Buddy Guy, Peter Frampton, Slash, McFly, and Joe Bonamassa, among others. When hardly into his teens, he played Cropredy Music Festival and BB King’s Blues Club in Memphis. He starred at the BBC Proms in the Park before an audience of 40,000. A recent American TV appearance from Hollywood attracted more than 11 million viewings on facebook.Toby played alongside Steve Winwood on Joe Bonamassa’s ‘Keeping The Blues Alive at Sea Cruise’ in 2023, and he spent a year performing the role of Zack Mooneyham in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s West End production of School of Rock which won the Best New Musical Award and earned three Olivier nominations. Securing Toby and his band to play for us is a real coup for Dereham Blues Festival!
The opening concert at the Dereham Memorial Hall on Wednesday 10th July featuring the amazing young talent Toby Lee, sold out in weeks. We regret to announce that the support act Catfish originally advertised for the concert, have sadly had to pull out of the gig due to the continuing serious illness of their lead singer and guitarist Matt Long. All involved in the festival send all our best wishes to Matt as he continues his treatment.
We are really pleased to announce that the superb and hard working James Oliver Band will now be the support act on the night, replacing Catfish. So it is sure to continue to be a superb opening concert for the festival.
This promises to be another memorable Opening Concert for Dereham Blues Festival!
