Between Sky, Soil, and Spirit brings together two artists, Todd Horner and José D. Trejo-Maya, whose practices illuminate fragile landscapes—both ecological and ancestral—that shape our collective memory. Through evocative photographs of the vanishing Tallgrass Prairie, Horner captures the vast skies, distant horizons, and living remnants of one of North America’s most endangered ecosystems. These images document not only the land’s dwindling presence, but its enduring power to define identity, awareness, and belonging. In dialogue with this work,Trejo-Maya draws from the Nahuatlacah oral tradition, creating sculptural forms and poetic expressions rooted in ancestral knowledge and dream imagery. Transparent, multidimensional installations reveal shifting layers of self, history, and myth—offering viewers a refracted encounter with time, memory, and the spirits of those who came before.
Together, the exhibition weaves a conversation between land and lineage, presenting two distinct yet resonant visions of preservation, transformation, and the enduring echoes that connect us to both the earth beneath us and the stories that shape who we are.
