In the exhibition "under construction" three practices of contemporary drawing are in conversation with one another. They deal with the theme of "construction sites" in different ways.
A drawing, whether on paper or in space, reveals the process of its creation. Drawing, even when it engages with reality or draws inspiration from it, is never a mere image, but always a construction. Those who draw invent forms and imaginary spaces. Minimal means, dots, lines, surfaces, are often enough to create something new. The goal is not to create a perfect picture or an overwhelming illusion. Rather, the drawing lives from the fragmentary, the implied, the cutout-like and the fragile. The drawing is not finished. We have to add to it by looking at it.
While Matthias Beckmann stages current Berlin construction sites with clear pencil lines and watercolour accents when drawing in front of the motif, Christiane Schlosser works on the abstract image and engages with disruptions in linear-drawing systems. Susanne Britz's spatial installations consist of everyday objects that are built in the literal sense, making the fragile interweaving of different living environments visible in surreal and humorous ways, thereby transforming the exhibition space into a stage-like construction site.
