About this Event
Come along to the opening of Dutch, More or Less #5: A Beautiful Cockroach, which features a new piece specially created by Maja Simišić - multimedia artist, designer and performer.
As part of the Dutch, More or Less presentation, which explores over 30 years of Dutch design, Simišić’s new work asks what happens when ‘Dutchness’ meets bureaucracy and the absurd.
She uses role-play and humour to highlight the Kafka-like nature of the migration system, official processes and identity politics. She turns these into theatre, finding freedom in the rules that try to control her.
Her new work was inspired by the cockroach. She reclaims the insect, sometimes used in dehumanising propaganda, as a symbol of survival, adaptability and toughness.
Dutch, More or Less
presents over 30 years of Dutch design. Rather than simply telling the story of Dutch design, it explores the ideas, themes and projects that have made Dutch designers leaders of the international design scene. What makes them unique? And how has the idea of ‘more or less Dutch’ design developed?
