Optimizing Zazen Point 2: Yoga
The Buddha was an adept yogi. He knew all the postures of his time and settled on four: sitting, standing, walking, and lying down. Modern day yoga combines Indian philosophy, including the wisdom of the Upanishads; physical postures used for millennia to help people sit more comfortably in meditation; and British calisthenics. The Yoga Sutras are a compilation of aphorisms that some scholars believe were inspired in part by Buddhism.
In this talk, Daishin will help us explore the similarities between Buddhism and the Yoga Sutras and how yoga can enhance our zazen practice.
Open Zen, 10 am–12 pm:
Zazen, service, and dharma talk
Followed by conversation over tea or coffee and work practice
**Please arrive by 9:45 and be seated on your cushion by 9:55.
