HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES
Art Workshop: Exquisite Corpses with Jackie Milad
Studio 219
12:00–1:00 p.m.
Register for this workshop on our website.
Our youngest artists are often the greatest source of inspiration. Artist-in-residence Jackie Milad and her son Piero will demonstrate how they work together in this family-friendly workshop. By taking turns, each player in the game “Exquisite Corpse” draws a section of the body hidden from the other player, creating a strange character together. Explore and collaborate with kids using this surrealist parlor game as a creative tool.
Workshop registration is required; space limited to 10 people.

Hands-On Art Activity with Samantha Rosado
Back Lot
12:00–3:00 p.m.
Studio artist Samantha Rosado will lead you in a collaging workshop based off her practice. Get creative with recycled objects and found objects to make your own original work of art to take home!

The Underground Mobile Art and Music Studio Activity with Michelle “Bunny” Gregory
Back Patio
12:00–3:00 p.m.
Step into local artist Michelle “Bunny” Gregory’s artsy bus! You’ll create a “critter” fridge magnet in her mobile studio.

PERFORMANCES
Performance by Janet Loren Hill
Front Lawn
1:30 p.m.
How do we cultivate teamwork? Artist-in-residence Janet Loren Hill has created a giant parachute with the help of Sewing Circle participants who sewed on beads. Now Hill invites you to be part of the collective performance by collaborating and playing with the parachute. On the front lawn of McColl Center, you’ll get to write anonymous directions for parachute activators to perform. Then, be part of the performance, and enjoy following or calling out directions through a megaphone.

Like a hibernating animal, she’s awake and the bamboo sprouted
Performance + Installation by Sichong Xie
Back Patio
3:00–4:00 p.m.
Enjoy artist-in-residence Sichong Xie’s performance featuring an installation with bamboo scaffolding, industrial privacy screen, and sound created by the artist during her residency. Through her work, Xie reimagines an architectural drawing her grandfather created in the late 1950s and early 1960s and draws attention to the invisible labor behind the architecture. The durational performance conveys a duality: the soft memory of factual things versus the never-ending invisible labor required to build new homes.

CAMPAIGN LAUNCH
Through Jaundiced Eyes by Eboné M. Lockett
Front Lawn
With her campaign, Through Jaundiced Eyes, studio artist Eboné M. Lockett wants to bring awareness and understanding to sickle cell disease. It’s a deeply personal project—her daughter, Kai Spence, battles the disease and her son, Ashantiwah Naphtali Spence, transitioned unexpectedly in 2009 due to sickle cell complications. Lockett will officially launch the campaign with a OneBlood mobile blood drive for critical blood transfusions.
