About this Event
Originally founded in 2014 in Venezuela, Letra Muerta opened its door in Brooklyn eight years later. Functioning as a book design studio with several archival compenents, we invite our community to a 45 minute guided tour with a 15 minute Q& A to explore our Archive Center, Miyo Vestrini Reading Room and Reference Library with a selection of curated material.
Our collection highlights independent publishers, graphic designers, visual artists, writers and activists from Latin America and the Caribbean while hosting material from over 20 countries. Materials vary from experimental books, zines, posters, ephemera and modernist.
The Reference Library fills in the gaps in design history through scholarship from a diverse lens. The Library carries literature from alternative publishing, gender, race, social movements, women designers, photography, typography and printed history.
While the studio welcomes participation from all, it primarily supports the work of Latin American and Caribbean artists, particulary women and other people of the periphery. If you need financial assistance, reach out ro us at [email protected]
