Opening for the first time exclusively for Cornwall Wildlife Trust only, Bochym Manor has delightfully tranquil and landscaped 18-acre gardens and grounds. The gardens comprise formal terraces, semi-formal areas and extensive areas of wildlife garden.
Members and non members welcome. There is no need to book, please just turn up on Sunday and pay at entrance.
To quench your thirst and sweet cravings, we will have delicious volunteer baked cakes, tea, coffee and other drinks for sale, so remember to bring cash. You can also buy a plant (or two or three) from the plant stall. All proceeds will go to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
About the garden:
The 17th century formal garden plan consists of 2 principal rectangular enclosures on 2 levels. Taller walling at north side of the garden, possibly planted with vines originally, now contains a variety of espalier fruit trees. The lower terrace has a holy well with pools and rockery. The orchard and tennis court have been reinstated according to old photos of the gardens. The tree lined driveway runs adjacent to the Poldhu River, a trout river with a series of ornamental ponds connected by rapids, ravines and waterfalls as it races down the valley. The sub-tropical climate of the Lizard Peninsula enables the growth of a number of trees and shrubs which are rare in other parts of the country.
