We're opening up training to members from our club AND members of other clubs free of charge for a morning of HEMA free sparring ? take whatever exotic (HEMA-safe) weapons you like, as much kit as you can manage, and pick some fights with friends!Weather dependent, we may have an option of continuing outside on the sands if anyone is particularly keen - we have the 1/2 sports hall from 10:00-12:00.
Steel/synthetic/foam longswords, messers, sabres, rapiers, daggers, arming swords and buckers, and so on - bring all your toys!
General rules:
1. If you are going to fence with someone you don't know, discuss the acceptable level of intensity first, check whether the opponent is happy with grappling, and make sure you both use adequate gear for the weapons you've chosen. No throwing in grappling!
2. There will be weapons (and possibly kit) to borrow, but do ask the owner before borrowing something.
3. Do not pair steel longswords with steel one-handed weapons because of the risk of breakage. Nylon longswords vs nylon one-handed weapons is ok.
4. You will need to have a mask, gloves and (ideally) a jacket as a minimum, but we have a fair amount of club masks to go around. There will be a limited number of club gloves and jackets too. Without a jacket, you will be limited to either foams weapons or synthetics. We are getting stricter about slow play with steel weapons - let's err on the side of safety, please.
The session will take place in our usual venue: Freeman's Quay Leisure Centre, 1st floor, large hall past the gym. The nearest parking: Walkergate Car Park across the road. Changing rooms and showers are available on the ground floor.
