From 5-7 September 2025, the Open Book Festival returns to Cape Town with three days of vital conversations that speak to our moment. Using books as a lens, we'll explore the pressing questions of our time—from climate crisis and queer resistance to African cosmologies and the impact of AI on meaning-making.
This year's festival brings together voices from South Africa and across the continent. Expect hard-hitting discussions on collapsed justice systems and inherited colonial structures alongside celebrations of humour, healing, and hope. OBF2025 offers a space for the conversations our communities need to have.
This is where Cape Town comes together to think, feel, and imagine new possibilities through the power of words.
