About this Event
This series of online workshops is aimed at photographers/artists who are considering self-publishing their work - whether that’s a zine or a hardback coffee table book. Sessions will be conducted online via Google Meet, weekly on Tuesday evenings, led by artist-photographer Robert Darch. Robert will draw on his varied experience of self-publishing to talk you through the processes involved, and discuss what he has learnt along the way.
This programme is designed to prepare you for the self-publishing journey and throughout the workshop there will be opportunities to discuss your specific publishing ambitions with Robert and the group. There will be time reserved at each session for individuals to ask questions on each step, and the final session will provide an opportunity for personalised 'crit'. At this stage, participants are encouraged to share the draft, dummy, or action plan that they are working on for feedback.
The aim is to provide a detailed understanding of the elements and knowledge required to successfully self-publish a photobook, and set you on your way!
Practicalities:
This online workshop is subject to a minimum level of attendance, and has a maximum capacity. Register early (and tell your friends!) to ensure the programme can go ahead. Those who have booked will be notified 7 days in advance to confirm that the course is able to run, and to provide relevant pre-session information and meeting links. We will be using Google Meet, which features in-built English automatic captioning.
When booking you are agreeing to attend all four sessions wherever possible. The session dates (detailed in AGENDA) are as follows:

A bout the session leader:
Robert is an artist-photographer based in the South-West of England. He has a Masters Degree with distinction in Photography and the Book and is an associate lecturer in photography at Plymouth University. He has successfully self-published his last two books, Vale and The Island both under his own imprint LIDO. His books were featured in the Guardian and The British Journal of Photography amongst others.
