One of the most important commemorations of 2021 in the panhispanic world is the centenary of the birth of the writer Carmen Laforet (Barcelona, 6th September 1921 - Madrid, 28th February 2004). With her first novel, Nada, Laforet was the winner of the first edition of the prestigious Nadal Prize in 1944, when she was only 23 years old, setting a youth record in being awarded this prize that has not yet been surpassed. Nada is set few years after the terrible Spanish civil war has ended. At midnight on an October day, Andrea arrives by train in Barcelona to study literature at the University. She marches through the wide, empty streets of the city in an old horse-drawn carriage until she reaches the house on Aribau Street where her relatives live. The expectation she feels in those initial magical moments will suddenly be erased when the door to the apartment opens, and from that moment on everything will seem like a nightmare.
The Winter 2021 Reading Club will be given entirely online, in order to comply with social distancing and be Covid secure. There will be 7 sessions that will take place through Zoom free software. The sessions will be in Spanish and in each class we will cover linguistic aspects that aid the understanding of the text.
The objective of the Reading Club, apart from improving the reading comprehension and speaking in Spanish, is to introduce to the attendees to the life and work of Carmen Laforet, and discover her social and historical context and the concerns and motives that fed her literary production.

Una de las conmemoraciones más importantes de 2021 es la del centenario del nacimiento de la escritora Carmen Laforet (Barcelona, 6 de septiembre de 1921 - Madrid, 28 de febrero de 2004). Con su primera novela, Nada, Laforet fue en 1944 la ganadora de la primera edición del prestigioso Premio Nadal, cuando contaba solo 24 años, estableciendo un récord de juventud en ser galardonado con este premio que todavía no ha sido superado.
Nada se ambienta pocos años después del fin de la Guerra Civil. A medianoche de un día de octubre, Andrea llega en tren a Barcelona para estudiar Letras en la Universidad. Atraviesa maravillada las anchas calles vacías de la ciudad en un viejo coche de caballos hasta llegar a la casa de la calle de Aribau donde viven sus parientes. La expectación que siente en esos momentos mágicos iniciales se va a borrar de golpe al abrirse la puerta del piso, y a partir de ese momento todo le va a parecer una pesadilla.
El objetivo del Club de lectura es, además de entrenar la compresión lectora y hablada del español, introducir a los asistentes a la vida y obra de Carmen Laforet, ahondando en su contexto social e histórico y en las preocupaciones o motivos que alimentaron su producción literaria.
El Club de lectura del invierno de 2021 se desarrollará íntegramente en línea como medida de prevención frente a la alerta sanitaria. Constará de cuatro sesiones que se impartirán a través del software gratuito Zoom. Las sesiones serán en español y en cada clase se trabajarán aspectos lingüísticos que faciliten las comprensión del texto.
