In this course, students will learn the endless expressive possibilities of traditional wool rug hooking – a utilitarian craft-turned-art form with a long history. Participants will create their own designs by employing the “Hit and Miss” technique of using up strips of recycled material readily on hand. The course will be comprised of weekly online support and discussion of pattern making, colour planning, sourcing materials and rug display. Students will learn how to incorporate elements and principles of design into their projects – finding inspiration in everything from colouring books, geometry, to nature.

About the Instructor: Lisa Meecham is an accomplished artist in many media including furniture and fibre arts. Re-purposing and upcycling are regularly deployed in her work to created beautiful functional pieces of art. An award-winning Traditional Rug Hooker, Lisa’s mats have been displayed at local MP and MPP’s offices, Ontario galleries, Nova Scotia guilds, and have toured the province of Newfoundland as part of a Canada 150 traveling exhibition. Lisa offers enthusiastic encouragement to those who “get hooked.”
