The Surfabilly Vibe!
What do you call a band that plays a high-energy, extremely fun mix of Instrumental Surf, Rockabilly and Alt-Rock Vibe music? The Surfabilly Vibe!
The Northern Virginia trio was started in 2019 after the guitarist, bass player and drummer were connected in different ways by way of their kids. Billy (bassist) has loved the music & art from the late 50s through early 60s since he was a child and was, as he called it, “Jonesing to start a surf band” for years. While talking to Norm (guitarist) at a kids’ event, he mentioned wanting to play surf music, Norm mentioned he played guitar and they agreed to try it out. The trio was completed when Dave’s (drummer) daughter mentioned to Greg at work that her dad was a drummer. The band got together in February of 2019, liked the sounds they were making and started playing gigs a few months later. Each member of the trio has played in bands for decades and, since that first session in 2019, these guys have generated the vibe for fans at outdoor festivals, venues and private parties all around the DMV.
But wait - where does that name come from? The Surfabilly Vibe takes their name from a full-throttle setlist that combines driving Surf Rock (e.g. The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Surfaris and Messer Chups) with jumping Rockabilly (e.g.,Chris Isaak, Elvis and Hillbilly Moon Explosion) and Alt-Rock tunes that have super-cool Vibes (e.g., Echo and the Bunnymen, The Church and The Clash). Very much like the music of Pulp Fiction, combining Surf with Rockabilly and Vibe music = The Surfabilly Vibe!
Learn more about this high-energy band and follow their socials so you can catch the Vibe as well as join the band’s Surfabilly Circle at any one of their shows around the DMV: https://linktr.ee/thesurfabillyvibe.
