You will learn the most basic skills to throw on the wheel and see if our 3-week class is right for you.A 90-mins pottery session that guides you through the fundamental steps of throwing a pot on the wheel. It will start from a demonstration showing the steps to throw on the pottery wheel (ex: centering the clay, forming the bottom, making a pull, shaping the piece and 15 min clean-up time). Each student receives three balls of clay to create, at the end of the class you may decide to keep one or all pieces made, and we will carefully trim your pot for you when it is ready – it can take a few days to reach this stage depending on weather. We will then dry your pot and fire it.
Throwing is a messy business, remember to bring an apron/handtowel and trim long nails as they can get in the way of your creative expression.
Students will need to come back to glaze their own piece to give it a colorful and glossy surface. Glazing is already included in the price of this workshop, you will get an email notification to schedule your glazing date once we complete a bisque firing for your piece.
Age: Anyone aged 14 and over is welcome to join but students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class.
What to wear: Flat, closed toe shoes are essential. Wear comfortable clothes that can get a little dirty.
*Our studio is a warehouse, so it could be a little chilly in the Winter time and hot in the Summer time.
