About this Event
Designers and design educators Ranee Lee (Toronto) and Amanda Huynh (Brooklyn) are collaborating with Chef Dez Lo (Top Chef Canada X runner-up) and Chef TJ Conwi (Ono Vancouver) for a one-night dining experience. Through food and design, we are addressing the urgently relevant topic of the need for better long-term care, an area that the pandemic has brought to the surface. The combination of our design backgrounds with Chef Dez and Chef TJ’s expertise in food and hospitality can make an impact through highlighting the need for ‘One Lovely Hour’ — a meal time each day that can elicit joy, comfort, and memory for our elders. We see an appetite in the public for these conversations towards positive social change.
Ranee and Amanda are presenting at PechaKucha Vancouver Vol.57 on Wednesday, May 8th, a fun and informal evening of culture, ideas, creativity, passion and opinions. This event is an extension of the ideas we wish to share.
Over two seatings, these dinners will bring together like-minded people to critically challenge the perception and affordances of foods for older adults. Chef Dez and Chef TJ are working closely with the designers to create food that accompanies the limited edition ceramic plates. Join us for a 3-course meal, 2 drink cocktails and a conversation. All guests will take home their own One Lovely Hour plate specially produced by artisans in Portugal.
Seating times: 5:30-7:30pm and 8:30-10:30pm
Proceeds from the event will be donated to Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice 世代同行會.
