About this Event
This is a one-off class for anyone over 18. Raku is the ancient art of fast smoky firing from Japan. It is for adults 18 and over only.
Over the course of the day you will glaze your work and it will be fast fired in our Raku kilns. The pieces, when they reach temperature, will then be carefully taken out into from the kilns before being plunged into paper/straw/other flammables.
The effects of fire/air/dramatic temperature changes can be incredible.
You are welcome to bring your own pieces (3-4 pieces 20cm tall 15cm wide) made from a suitable clay that can take the level of thermal shock the work goes through.
Alternatively, you can purchase ready made bisque ware from us (£10-15).
You will need some basic pottery experience. This is not suitable for complete beginners.
Small classes of 6. We provide tea/coffee/biscuits but you will need to bring a packed lunch with you.
Raku is done outdoors so you will need to dress appropriately.
Classes are subject to the weather. Too windy or wet conditions can make it difficult to run the class and they may be subject to late postponing. If a class is postponed we always offer a full refund or an alternative date. We try and give as much notice as possible.

Cost: £125 INCL. GLAZING & FIRINGS. Pots are charged seperately.
REFUNDS: *Please note that if you cancel 15 full working days in advance then you will get a full refund. If you cancel between 15 full working days and the start of the class in advance then you will only get a 50% refund if someone else can be found to replace you. Please note that all refunds are minus Eventbrite fees which are non-refundable. Cancelations may be subject to an admin fee of £50. REFUNDS for groups of 3 or larger require 20 working days notice as it can be really difficult to sell on large numbers of tickets close to the date of the class. There are no transfers available for groups of 3 or larger.
CHANGING DATES OF YOUR CLASS: Please note that to transfer to a different date you must give 15 working days notice. You are bound by the above refund terms. We only allow one transfer. If you find you are unable to do the date you have transferred to but give 15 working days notice we will issue a refund instead of another transfer.
Please note that we are unable to offer refunds or transfers within the 15 working days notice period if you are having to self-isolate or develop Covid-19 unless someone can be found to replace you.
PREGNANCY & PHYSICAL HEALTH: Please note that this class isn't suitable for pregnant women. We do our best to minimise the effects of smoke but if you do have any lung conditions you will need to get in touch before booking.
