Memories and ghosts of the past hover behind and inspire all of the music you will hear, from Schubert’s elegant and poised tribute to Mozart, to Finzi’s heartfelt and emotional response to World War I. Uzbek-born composer Elena Kats-Chernin’s driving Zoom and Zip draws onchildhood memories of music heard in Russia and the concert opens with one of classical music’s best-loved works, Mendelssohn’s gloriously evocative depiction of a visit to the Scottish coast.
