For Kids:Ms. Stella and Farmer Bill have had a lot of mischief on the farm this spring… someone let the animals out of their pens, stole grains from the feed barn, took the corn from the west side of the farm, mixed all the seeds together, and swiped Ms. Stella’s map! We need you to restore order. Who has been causing all of the mischief on the farm this week? Can you collect the clues, restore order to the farm, and find the one causing all this trouble?
For Parents:
On the Farm challenge quest is all about farm animals and crops. In this series of eight challenges, your child will explore animals on a farm, planning a farm layout, a barn quilt and patterns, and problem-solving in this engaging story about Farmer Bill’s mishaps. We’ll read books like From Seed to Plant, by Gail Gibbons, and Oak Tree Grows, by G. Brian Karas. We’ll tackle academic skills including how seeds grow, caring for animals, measurement and fractions, geometric shapes and patterns, the engineering design process, scale and mapping, weaving and coordination, and sorting and matching.

What is a challenge quest? A challenge quest focuses on 21st century skills such as problem solving, collaboration, outside-the-box and critical thinking, and innovation. This set of activities introduces a problem or mystery in a story-like journal and allows free exploration to discover new knowledge and to use tools in a different / new way. Challenges integrate academics with a child’s natural curiosity and creativity while teaching life skills via our Maker Lab Studios. Learners have an intrinsic desire to learn new things and gain new skills because we focus on one’s personal best. We encourage trying. We establish that mistakes are okay and we can learn from them. Learners build, deepen, or cement understanding by making. We define the learning goals and provide structure, scaffolds, and support for learners in the Challenge Quest Journal. We provide a Challenge Kit and sometimes an alias that aligns with the story characters.
