About this Event

Ronnie Benbow has spent a lifetime in the health and carer sector both professionally and in her personal life. After entering the industry at just 17 years of age, Ronnie identified a shortfall in care that carers received; the focus was always on the cared-for not the carers. This, a lifetime in the healthcare space and her passion drove Ronnie to start The Carers Foundation Australia, the only charity that provides wellness programs to support carers of all ages. Because of her dedication, in 2021 Ronnie was nominated for the Qld Australian of the Year, and also awarded the Moreton Bay Citizen of the Year 2021. Ronnie has also gone on to co-author a book that speaks of the challenges, adversities and successes associated with the journey of being a Humble Leader.

Join host Simone De Haas as she sits down with Ronnie Benbow On the Couch in the Brisbane Business Hub. Ronnie will share her life journey to date and the insights learned along the way including:

About Ronnie Benbow, Founder, The Carers Foundation Australia

Ronnie Benbow is renowned for her kind, compassionate, and caring nature. Being an only child raised by loving parents it was a natural progression that Ronnie chose a caring profession. Successfully completing her nursing and midwifery registrations, Ronnie furthered her education by completing a health-science degree.

Over many years of experience in the hospital and community environments, Ronnie identified the lack of support for the caregivers, discovering that countless carers had worse health conditions than the person they were caring for. More disturbing was the fact children as young as eight were caring for their parents or siblings with little support. Realizing that carers did not have the time or resources to care for themselves, Ronnie’s vision was to provide a healing haven for Carers so they could restore their own mental health and wellbeing.

Ironically, over the next fifteen years Ronnie experienced being a carer herself for some of her family members, so she understood professionally and personally the pure exhaustion, mental-fatigue, and social-isolation that Carers typically endure. Ronnie’s burning passion for establishing a healing haven was stronger than ever. During this time Ronnie and her husband organised business retreats, privately funding wellness programs for Carers. Seeing a significant difference these programs made to Carers’ lives motivated Ronnie even more to fulfil her vision.

In 2015, following the passing of her beloved father, Ronnie established The Carers Foundation Australia in honour of her parents. Since then, Ronnie has worked tirelessly to raise awareness for unpaid family carers and raising funds to allow carers to attend the wellness programs at no cost.

Because of her dedication, in 2021 Ronnie was nominated for the Qld Australian of the Year, and also awarded the Moreton Bay Citizen of the Year 2021.

To this date The Carers Foundation Australia is the only charity that provides wellness programs to support Carers of all ages of which Ronnie intends to expand nationally, then internationally.
