About this Event
On 26 February 1825 the Marquis de Lafayette entered North Carolina, stopping in Murfreesboro, Jackson, and Halifax, before spending two days in Raleigh from 28 February to 1 March. After viewing the Canova statue of George Washington at the Capitol and being entertained at the Governor’s Palace, Lafayette moved on to Fayetteville where a ball was held in his honor. Join us as we celebrate the Bicentennial of the Marquis de Lafayette’s return visit to America with historian Jonathan Underwood as he introduces us to the Marquis and walks us through his stay in North Carolina and the events that surrounded his visit.
