To book: booking.cismalta.orgShakespeare’s Merchant of Venice contrasts the difference between idealistic and realistic attitudes in relationships and society. The play shows us how love is more important than money, that mercy is better than revenge, and that love lasts forever. In a mercenary culture such as ours, where money is valued greater than humanity, fraternity and our Creation, the play acquires new relevance.
Portia's speech in which she urges Shylock to show a kind of mercy that “droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven,” and “is an attribute to God Himself,” is one of Shakespeare’s most loved passages.
In the course of this retreat we will thus study and contemplate this speech and use it as key to open ourselves more to be touched by the mystery and grace of Divine Mercy and to thus become more merciful and just persons ourselves. The text will also be paralleled with Scripture and Pope Francis' "God's name is Mercy."
This retreat, as always, will be held in silence and in the experience of friendships, excursions, art and more.
