Omiyage translates to souvenir in Japanese. It is a gift that you buy for others whenever you go somewhere and come back, usually a present that is sharable and represents the local productions of the place you visited. The practice of omiyage is ingrained in the Japanese culture where the art of gift giving includes special attention to detail and heartfelt focus on wrapping, the container, choice of gift, homemade food, place of purchase, etc. Doris Asano, origami master, and Seiko Watkins, an elementary school teacher and a specialist in gift giving, will be making a variety of omiyage packaging items with our workshop participants which include but are not limited to: origami gift and treat bags, container for a treat, and a coke bottle box. More if time permits!
