About this Event
🥾 Ochils Mountaineering Club – Mountain Day Walk 🥾
Join the Ochils Mountaineering Club for a sociable full-day hillwalk in classic Scottish upland or mountain terrain. Expect good company, open views (weather permitting!), and a solid day on the hill.
This is a great opportunity to stretch the legs, explore less-familiar ground, and build confidence in the hills with fellow OMC members.
Destination of the day will be tentatively set one week before the walk and then confirmed to attendees on the Thursday prior to the meet. If weather affects our original plan we will communicate our plan B.
More Info on our club can activities can be found online.
📍 Walk Overview
- Grade: Moderate to strenuous depending on final route, weather, and underfoot conditions.
- Terrain: Typical Scottish upland or mountain environment — may include rough ground, steep sections, or pathless terrain.
- Duration: 6–8 hours including breaks.
- Pace: Sociable group pace. We walk at the pace of the slowest group member so no one is left behind.
The exact route will be confirmed closer to the day, and may change depending on weather or group needs.
❄️ Seasonal & Winter Conditions
In winter or shoulder seasons, conditions may include snow, ice, high winds, or limited daylight. Additional equipment (e.g. ice axe, crampons, headtorch) may be required, and walkers should be prepared to make sound judgments about their readiness and equipment.
We’ll assess weather forecasts in advance and adjust the route or plan accordingly.
⚠️ Important Info
- This is a peer-led OMC meet. While a walk coordinator will facilitate the day, each participant is responsible for their own safety, navigation, and mountain judgment.
- You must be confident moving in mountain terrain and prepared for varied and possibly challenging weather.
- If you’re unsure whether this walk is right for you, please contact the organiser in advance.
