ℹ️ What is the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training?

The training is named after Oliver McGowan.

Oliver was a young man who died because health and social care staff did not have the right training.

This showed the need for staff to:

  • 📘 Have better understanding
  • 🧠 Build the right knowledge
  • 🛡️ Give safe and caring support

Because of this, the Government made this training mandatory.

📜 The law is called the Health and Care Act 2022.

This training is the recommended training for health and social care staff.

This training is for:

  • 🏡 Social care staff
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Parent carers
  • 👪 Family members
  • 🧍 Work Collegues
  • 🌱 Anyone who wants to learn more

You do not need to be a professional to attend.


✅ Does this training meet legal requirements?

Yes.

Completing the correct Tier:

  • ✔️ Meets the Health and Care Act 2022
  • ✔️ Meets Care Quality Commission expectations

🖥️ How is the training delivered?

This course is Tier 2.

  • 📍 Tier 2 is delivered in person
  • ❌ You do not need to attend Tier 1 in person

You must complete the free online e-Learning before the training day.

  • 🆓 The e-Learning is free
  • 👩‍💻 Everyone must complete it
  • ⏰ It must be finished before attending

🗓️ What will the day look like?

The training day is 9.30am-4.30pm.

It is delivered by three trainers:

  • 🎓 Approved Facilitating Trainer
  • 🧠 Learning Disability Lived Experience Co-Trainer
  • 🗣️ Autism Lived Experience Co-Trainer

You can (all optional):

  • 💬 Join discussions
  • 🙋 Ask questions
  • 🤝 Learn directly from people with lived experience

You will receive:

  • ❓ Time to ask questions
  • 📄 Handouts
  • 🛠️ Practical tools and resources
  • 📜 Tier 2 Certificate of Completion

💷 Cost
  • £65 per person

🔁 Cancellations or refunds must be requested 14 days before the course.
