Olives are a versatile fruit, ideal for adding to salads, pasta, snacks, and appetizers. Naturally bitter, this fruit is cured in salt.Classes at the 1909 Culinary Academy combine a hands-on cooking experience with delicious tasting experiences.
Olives are the perfect savoury snack but they're incredibly versitile too. Together we'll prepare four dishes featuring several types of olives.
What's on our menu?
Two popular appetizers include olive tapenade, made with kalamata olives. Our second appetizer, Caponata, pairs beautifully with crostini and features a blend of flavours from eggplant, capers, and green olives.
Olives add a sweet saltiness to salads, especially a Mediterranean inspired Grilled Halloumi Salad. Halloumi cheese is grilled to a crispy coating and added to fresh cucumber, greens, herbs, and olives, all coated with a zippy lemon dressing.
Our main dish is Pasta Puttanesca. With origins in Naples, this dish is typically made with tomatoes, olives, anchovies, chili peppers, capers, and garlic.
As a special treat, we'll be featuring a small selection of high quality Olive Oils for tasting.
Our evening culminates as we sit down together to enjoy the dishes that you have prepared together.
The 1909 Culinary Academy is licenced, with a drink list of beer, wine, and cocktails available throughout your event.
Sometimes we have leftovers, so please bring your own reusable containers to help us reduce the use of single use plastics.
