Modeled after Scotland’s Hogmanay Festival, this popular celebration of the New Year features a bagpipe and drums-led procession through Olde Towne. It’s a tradition that honors area merchants and provides a chance for the entire community to wish each other good luck and prosperity in the coming year. To participate, line up at Queen and Washington streets around 4 p.m., as the 27th annual walk starts promptly at 4:30 p.m. Friends often gather in pubs before and after the walk to enjoy each other’s company, share a meal, sample the local ales, and thank the local innkeepers for their service to the community. Woolens, plaids, tartans and kilts are welcomed but not required to come share in this charming and joyous tradition.
This is a free event and all are welcome.
