Join CHPL for this event as part of our grant-funded series, 'U.S. at 250: South Jersey and the Revolution' - all year long, we're celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
With original photographs, vintage images, and patriotic music, Kevin Woyce explores the history of the American Flag - from its origin in the Revolution to the addition of our 50th star in 1960. He also explains how a poem about the 1814 Battle of Baltimore - set to a popular English melody - became our national anthem.
This program's instrumental music is played live on electric guitar, accompanied by pre-recorded tracks arranged and performed by Kevin Woyce.
About the Presenter:
Kevin Woyce is a lifetime resident of the Garden State. His first book, published in 2007, was Jersey Shore History & Facts. This local historian has since written about lighthouses, New Jersey State Parks, Niagara Falls, the Statue of Liberty, and favorite Christmas traditions. All of these books are illustrated with his original black & white photographs, plus some vintage images. Mr. Woyce began lecturing on regional history in 2008 and has presented for CHPL several times in the past.
This program was funded by a grant from the New Jersey State Library’s REV 250: Examining the Semiquincentennial through a Jersey Lens — an opportunity for public libraries to celebrate New Jersey’s contributions and place in history.
