55th Annual Oktoberfest at the Turner HallFriday & Saturday, October 11th and 12th, 2024
The Sacramento Turn Verein will hold its 55th Annual Oktoberfest at Turner Hall, a celebration patterned after the world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich. The largest folk festival in the world has been a Bavarian tradition for 200 years.
Many Sacramentans have come to anticipate the Turn Verein’s Oktoberfest because they know they can enjoy traditional German music, food and drink that they can find only at this event. The Sacramento Turners host the best Oktoberfest in the Sacramento area.
Entertainment includes German band Gruber Family Band in the Main Hall , AKA LIVE the rock-& roll band upstairs in the Festhall, the Alpenmeisters in the Biergarten and performances by the Alpentänzer Schuhplattlers.
Friday evening doors open at 6:00 p.m. with food service and bar available, dancing from 7:00 until 11:30 p.m. The Turn Verein’s Kaffeehaus and outdoor Biergarten will be open throughout the evening, offering German food specialties. On Saturday the Oktoberfest will observe expanded hours by opening at 3:00 p.m. with all activities available to enjoy until 11:30 p.m.
Kegs of authentic Oktoberfest beer, shipped directly from Munich, will be available for all to enjoy.
General admission for adults is $20.00; children 6 to 12, $5.00; no charge for children under 6.
Note to the curious:
At the opening ceremony of the Munich Oktoberfest, the mayor of Munich traditionally deals three strong blows to tap the first keg, followed by the Bavarian shout, “ O ‘zapft is’!” (It’s tapped!). With that the Oktoberfest officially begins. Sacramento’s Oktoberfest will be opened with a similar ceremony and a grand flag march. We’ve invited local dignitaries to perform the traditional keg-tapping ritual.
