Faces is a visceral, unflinching examination of love, disillusionment, and the quiet desperation behind middle-class smiles. Shot in stark, high-contrast black-and-white, the film strips away Hollywood artifice to reveal the vulnerability, ugliness, and beauty of people caught in the quiet chaos of their own emotional lives. Written and directed by iconoclastic auteur John Cassavetes, Faces features powerhouse, naturalistic performances from Gena Rowlands, John Marley, Lynn Carlin, and Seymour Cassel. Often cited as a touchstone of the American New Wave, Faces is cinema at its most alive: uncomfortable, unpredictable, and utterly human.
