About this Event
This December, Okayplayer is making its debut at Art Basel in Miami with the Okayplayer House, presented in partnership with BET and Content for Change. Set in the iconic Red Rooster in Overtown, the Okayplayer House is a tribute to the deep connections between Afro-diasporic music, art, and culture, celebrating Okayplayer’s unique role in bridging past and present cultural movements.
The Danny Hastings Latent Images Exhibit will be accompanied by an audio tour to enhance the experience for gallery visitors. The audio tour, narrated by Danny Hastings, will provide context and insights into the images on display. Personal headphones are required to enjoy the audio portion.
The day-long experience will feature a public exhibit from 12 PM to 9 PM, centered around the exclusive photography of legendary Hip-Hop photographer Danny Hastings. Known for his work with Hip-Hop greats like RZA and Wu-Tang Clan, Hastings has captured some of the most iconic album covers in Hip-Hop history. For the first time, he’ll be unveiling a selection of previously unpublished, never-before-seen photographs, making this exhibit a must-see for music and art lovers alike.
Hastings’ exhibit transforms the second floor of Red Rooster into a traditional darkroom, a nostalgic nod to his roots as one of Hip-Hop’s last darkroom photographers. Attendees will get an intimate look at both his classic and unpublished works, witnessing the intersection of his art with the powerful history of Hip-Hop and street culture.
