This workshop will address the iterative process of developing a painting from observation
with intention.
Areas of focus will include:
Composition – developing your point of view Bringing out your highlights and shadows
developing color and temperature Working the whole canvas. Stand back! Be bold!
Understanding Value – laying in your darks to lights The ins and outs of painting Plein Air

We will paint from life for this workshop. Several still life arrangements consisting of a collection of
objects and natural elements will be set up. For the first half of the workshop, we will paint a natural
still life indoors. For the second half of the workshop you may choose to paint outdoors (plein air)
or continue indoors with a new work. A basic knowledge of drawing, painting, and color is helpful.
