KOBI is a conceptual Liberian/Ghanaian Photographer and Filmmaker creating out of Minneapolis, MN. Since obtaining his BFA in Integrated Media and Film production from St. Cloud State University, his artistry has evolved from one about reparation and become more about the preservation and restoration of his self-identity and how it relates to the diaspora of Blackness. “Oh, The Things You can be is a show in collaboration with my 4 year old daughter Indie Victoria Grace. Throughout my life, I was told that being an artist was not a sustainable thing I could be and do. The purpose is to show her that an artist is something that she can be and that there’s more to life than what’s in your bank account. To show her that people care about her and what she has to say, and ultimately the only opinion that can shape her reality is hers.”
KOBI is a 2021-2022 Jerome Fellow and former member of Public Functionary Studios. He uses Film making, Sound Design and Analogue Photography as a tools to display his trauma and create a space for healing through conversations about acceptance and accountability. He believes that the art we make is an extension of who we were, who we are and who we want to become.
Please join us to welcome KOBI and Indie on Saturday, February 7th from 3-5pm. Light snacks and refreshments will be available as well as an interactive art-making station. If you are unable to attend, the show will be up through March 28th 💜
