Oh Glory II represents a profound continuation of composer and baritone James Dargan's deeply personal exploration into the vast landscape of Black composers and the Black poets they have chosen to set to music throughout history and in contemporary times. Through this carefully curated program Dargan illuminates how the remarkable complexity and extraordinary variety found within this musical repertoire reveals the beautiful nuance depth and multifaceted nature of Black life in all its forms.
Through song and spoken word the program will traverse emotional landscapes that encompass joy struggle triumph contemplation and celebration all essential elements of the human experience as expressed through the unique lens of Black artistry. Each piece has been thoughtfully selected to showcase not only the technical brilliance of these composers but also their ability to capture and convey the essence of Black poetry in musical form.
