About this Event
AS FEATURED IN THIS MONTH'S TEXAS MONTHLY MAGAZINE
Join the author of the book "Ghosts of Galveston" for a walk through Galveston's historic Strand as she shares stories of some of the island's most famous ghosts and eerie history. Spirits of Civil War soldiers, 1900 Storm victims and even a murderess dwell in the buildings and along the street, never quite able or willing to depart from their beloved Galveston.
We'll be walking at a leisurely pace, taking time to see if you can capture photos of ghosts through windows and on the street like so many have before. But don't be surprised if someone unseen tugs on your sleeve, or you feel a chill in the air...it's just their way of saying "hello."
Your host is Kathleen Maca, the author of "Galveston's Broadway Cemeteries," "Ghosts of Galveston," "Ghostly Tales of Galveston" and "A History of the Hotel Galvez." A local historian and writer, she has been featured on such shows as Ghost Brothers and Texas Country Reporter, and in Texas Highways, Authentic Texas, Texas Monthly, Galveston Monthly and Island Soul magazines.
We'll meet on the steps in front of the Shearn Moody Plaza Building (home of the Galveston Railroad Museum) at the intersection of 25th and Strand.
Please note:
Please wear comfortable walking shoes, and be aware of curbs and uneven walking paths. The Strand is well lit, so flashlights aren't necessary but you are welcome to bring one if you like.
**Tour is wheelchair accessible.
No video or audio recording allowed during the tour. STILL PHOTOS ARE ENCOURAGED-you never know who or what you might capture!
Guide takes no responsibility for injuries incurred during tour. There are limited restroom opportunities on the Strand, so it is encouraged to "take care of business" ahead of time.
Feel free to bring your beverages along! It is legal to walk along The Strand with alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. Please purchase them before the tour, as no stops will be made along the way.
Tour will be given rain or shine except in the case of a severe thunderstorm. Ticket fee is non-refundable.
Don't worry about printing your e-tickets - I'll have the guest roster with me.
