We cross the pedestrian bridge over the James, traverse the dry rocks to the regatta ladder, and finish our loop by the river.
About this Event

Ambassador: Shanese Babcock

Arrive by: 9am

Hike starts at: 9:15am

Return approximately : 12:30pm, depending on how much exploring we do

Meetup point: Belle Isle Parking lot - 344 Tredegar St. Richmond, VA 23219

Difficulty (per AllTrails): Moderate. Going across the dry rocks is always different because of water level. If we get to the ladder and anyone doesn't feel comfortable climbing up, we can get back on trail a different way!

About this event: This will be a Belle Isle Adventure! Lots of opportunities for cool photos. A truly unique spot to Richmond! Getting there early will hopefully allow everyone to find parking easily. We'll take the suspended pedestrian bridge over the James River to get to the isle. Trail on the isle is mostly flat. We'll take a short route to get to the other side and access the dry rocks. We can go down and explore/make our way over to the ferrata-type ladder to get back onto the trail. We'll continue our loop around the perimeter, passing the Hollywood Rapids. There are small pools close to shore we may be able to take a quick dip in, if you feel comfortable. We'll end up back at the pedestrian bridge, cross and finish to the parking lot.

Who’s allowed?

o Men+ : No

o Children : Yes (use your discretion if you think they can keep up on the rocks. If they get in the water, you MUST be in with them.)

o Dogs : Yes (if you can lift them up the ladder and think they can navigate the rocks)

Weather contingency plan: If there are thunderstorms we will reschedule, otherwise we're on!

Education: I will bring a large trash bag for litter collection, hand sanitizer, and a few latex gloves. Please help keep the area clean if you feel so inclined.

ASSUMPTION OF LIABILITY, WAIVER of CLAIMS, AND RELEASE re GWHVA EVENT

BY REGISTERING FOR THIS EVENT, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ALL ACTIVITIES DURING THIS EVENT ARE UNDERTAKEN AT YOUR OWN RISK.

It is a REQUIREMENT to register and therefore this waiver before attending Girls Who Hike Virginia (“GWHVA”) hiking and outdoor events. All MINORS (by parent/guardian) and all GUESTS of MEMBERS must register. Failure to follow these rules will disqualify the individual from participating in the GWHVA hiking and/or event. can result in repercussions up to & including being removed from the group.

By joining a GWHVA hike, I acknowledge that I will be participating in activities that are potentially dangerous and unpredictable including but not limited to: walking, exercise, hiking, backpacking, insects, animals, plants, substances, swimming, boating, kayaking, biking and camping events organized by the volunteers of GWHVA. GWHVA is a non-profit meet-up organization where hikers and backpackers meet to participate in outdoor adventure and educational activities called Events (“Event(s)”).

The waiver of liability is an agreement that attendance at these Events are strictly voluntary and of my own choice and that I agree 100% to accept personal responsibility for all and any foreseen and unforeseen events, acts of others, including negligence, that may occur during, including to and from, group events, group members and group activities and non-group activities.

I understand that during my participation in GWHVA events, I may be exposed to a variety of hazards and risks, foreseen or unforeseen. Some of these hazards and risks are inherent in all outdoor Events and cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the Events. These inherent risks include, but are not limited to, the dangers of serious personal injury, property damage, and death (“Injuries and Damages”) from exposure to the hazards of outdoor activities and travel to and from these activities.

GWHVA has not tried to contradict or minimize my understanding of these risks. I know that injuries and damages can occur by natural causes, artificial causes, activities of other persons, animals, trip members, trip organizers and assistant organizers, or third parties, either as a result of negligence or because of other reasons.

The group, organization (including directors and members), moderators, volunteer group leaders, assistant organizers, and Event participants take no responsibility for me, my guest or minor, and will not be held responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur during group Events. Outdoor sports are inherently dangerous and accidents will happen and risks of such Injuries and damages are a part of adventure Events. I clearly understand that I may have to exercise extra care for my own person and for others around me in the face of such hazards.

In consideration for my acceptance as a participant on Events, I confirm my understanding that:

GWHVA does not certify or confirm the qualifications of any of the directors, ambassadors, volunteer group leaders, or members to lead or manage or set-up Events or trips nor are they trained to respond during an emergency by providing first aid, CPR, or any rescue action. I further understand that on these Events there may not be search, rescue, medical facilities or expertise necessary to deal with the Injuries and Damages to which I may be exposed.

The Events officially begin and end at the location(s) designated by GWHVA. The Events do not include carpooling, transportation, or transit to and from the Events, and I am personally responsible for all risks associated with this travel. GWHVA is not responsible for monitoring the behavior of other hikers during the Event.

If I decide to leave early and not to complete the Event as planned, I assume all risks inherent in my decision to leave and waive all liability against GWHVA arising from that decision. Likewise, if the leader has concluded the Event, and I decide to go forward without the leader, I assume all risks inherent in my decision to go forward and waive all liability against GWHVA arising from that decision.

Backpacking/hiking/camping are physical activities involving a large amount of walking and physical exertion. Participants must be in good general health, free from cardiovascular and respiratory disease, and have good exercise tolerance and that I get my physicians approval before commencing such activities.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, I agree to WAIVE, DISCHARGE CLAIMS, AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY the GWHVA organization, its directors, moderators, volunteer group leaders, assistant organizers, and members from any and all liability on account of, or in any way resulting from injuries and damages, even if caused by negligence of GWHVA, its directors, moderators, volunteer group leaders, assistant organizers, and members, in any way connected with Events.

I further agree to INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS GWHVA, its directors, moderators, volunteer group leaders, assistant organizers, and members from any claims, damages, injuries or losses caused by my own negligence while a participant on the Events. I understand and intend that this assumption of risk and release is binding upon my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, and includes any guests and/or minors accompanying me on the Events.

This Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by law. If any provision or any part of any provision of this Agreement is held to be invalid or legally unenforceable for any reason, the remainder of this Agreement shall not be affected thereby and shall remain valid and fully enforceable.

By joining in the Event, I freely and voluntarily assume all risks of such injuries and damages from any cause whatsoever.
