About this Event
Dr. Chuck Perou is the May Goldman Shaw Distinguished Professor of Molecular Oncology in the UNC Department of Genetics. He also serves as the Co-Director of the Computational Medicine Program, Faculty Director of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) Bioinformatics Group, and the Co-Leader of the LCCC Breast Cancer Research Program. Dr. Perou has co-founded several genomics-based biotechnology companies, including Bioclassifier.
This company commercialized his groundbreaking research on the molecular subtypes of breast cancers into Prosigna, a clinically validated and FDA approved test. Prosigna helps physicians make informed decisions about cancer treatment, ultimately improving patient outcomes. In his talk, Dr. Perou will share his journey from research to entrepreneurship, highlighting the challenges and lessons learned in transforming his cancer genomics research into a successful startup and an FDA-approved test.
