In partnership with DreamWeek San Antonio, celebrate Black history in this two-part survey of work in SAMA's collection. In the first evening, we'll travel to Nubia and learn about some of the museum's oldest pottery as well as how Queen Amanirenas of the Kingdom of Kush battled the Romans, cross the Atlantic to look at the 17th century work from Mexico attributed to an Afro-Mexican painter whose mural-sized canvases adorn the sacristy of the Cathedral of Mexico City, and head north to learn about Canadian-born abolitionist and landscape painter Edward Mitchell Bannister.Free with Museum Admission
