This concert is part of a UK tour marking the release of Chris Cundy’s new album Of All The Common Flowers.
And as a three leaved complement to the many blossoms of Chris’s solo bass clarinet set,
Marjolaine Charbin, Eric Clarke and Bruno Guastalla will come together as the Bird’s foot trefoil Piano Trio, improvising music influenced by fragments of a text (‘Faune et Flore’) by the mid-20th Century French poet Francis Ponge.
Tickets: £12 / £8 at the door
Chris Cundy is based in south west England. For over two decades he has specialised in bass clarinet and rarified woodwinds, touring internationally as a solo artist as well as accompanying acts such as Little Annie, Timber Timbre, Guillemots and Cold Specks. He also directs Mutata Radio Orchestra which is made up of some of Europe’s leading free improvisation and contemporary classical players and has written site-specific works which have recently been performed at The Roman Baths in Bath and for a number of other regional museums and heritage sites.
“Swirling around the songs was bass clarinet player Chris Cundy, like a birdsong interrupting an argument” LOS ANGELES TIMES.
Of All The Common Flowers is Chris Cundy’s third album of solo unaccompanied bass clarinet music. Sitting somewhere between a modern folk vernacular and contemporary classical, the album is made up of over a dozen rhythmic motifs and improvisational sketches which offer meditations on wild flowers, their critical habitats and peripheral landscapes.
Bird’s foot trefoil: also known as ‘butter and eggs’, ‘granny’s toenails’, ‘hen and chickens’. Foodplant for the caterpillars of the common blue, silver-studded blue and wood white butterflies, its flowers are also a good nectar source for bees.
