ODST Maths: Developing use of manipulatives in Key Stage 2

Using manipulatives for Maths concepts in KS2. Led by maths consultant Nathan Crook. This training is for teachers in ODST schools only.
About this Event

This workshop aims to help participants understand the power of adopting use of manipulatives within a Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, so that children’s learning is accessible and provides opportunities for them to think deeply. Ways of encouraging pupils to understand mathematical concepts and reason (including when problem solving) will be explored. The following manipulatives will feature: Numicon shapes, a 1-100 bead string, place value counters, dienes, the ten frame, Cuisenaire rods and double-sided counters.

Please note that a small number of slides will connect back to ideas shared during two open ODST training sessions during the previous two academic years:
