About this Event
There are four tours, which last approximately 1.5 hours and are 1.5-2 miles long. Each has a different focus:

SE Alleys
Capitol Hill has many hidden alleys and charming one-block streets. Take a trip back in time to eplore the workaday world of past residential and industrial uses and some of our most diverse populations. Starts at 233 12th Street SE
October 19th at 1pm
One-block Streets in NE
Our one-block streets are among the most charming streets on Capitol Hill. Come on this tour and learn who created them and why, the communities who lived here and the changing architectural styles popular in 1870s, 1890s, 1900s, 1910s. Meet in front of 222 11th Street NE (corner of 11th and Park Street NE).

NE Alleys
The lifestyles, occupations, and shenanigans of the inhabitants; early industrial uses; and efforts both to eliminate and to preserve alley dwellings. Starts at the triangle park bounded by the 600 blocks of Massachusetts & Constitution Avenues, NE.
October 20 at 1:00pm
The Civil War and Before
This tour highlights some of the neighborhood's oldest history and buildings. Learn about the groups of people who were the original inhabitants of the area near the Navy Yard. Meet at the corner of 8th and M Streets SE.
These tours are presented by volunteers from the Capitol Hill Restoration Society as a way to highlight our wonderful neighborhood. We want people to appreciate the rich history and the beautiful architecture so that we will continue to protect and preserve the area in and around the Historic District.
