2020 was a year like no other. COVID-19 has affected many but particularly our vulnerable community. In South Australia, more and more women are experiencing homeless, are the victims of domestic and family violence and are battling mental health issues.
Imagine experiencing one or even all of these challenges – but you are a new Mum.
You have the constant demands of a newborn yet you don’t have a safe place to live, the basic necessities of food and hygiene items and have limited or no support. You are scared and you feel incredibly alone.
These are the women The Village Co supports.
Every week, we are phoned by major maternity hospitals who have women arrive to give birth with nothing – simply the clothes on their backs. In addition to this we hear from youth programs and community agencies who are working with women who need further help. These women are desperately seeking support from those around them.
“I received one of your wonderful bags as I am expecting to give birth next month. I am struggling so much. I also have a 2 year old son that is profoundly deaf, so for me going out to prepare for my little girl is really hard. But, your bag of goodies not only helped me as I don’t have a lot of money, it made me realise that there are people out there that really do care”.

We invite you to join The Village Co. to support women like Sophie and Emma and give your time to make an impact. The 2 hours you give will help us sort and pack donations while being a great time to meet new people or catch up with friends.
